The SIM-server enables a flexible approach to SIM-cards management in VoIP-solutions (voice) as well as in SMS-solutions. It allows avoiding physical SIM-cards insertion into GSM-gateways and replaces it by logical «virtual» insertion of SIM-cards in gateway’s channels. Use of SIM-server technology dramatically expands the sphere of application for GSM-gateways, opens new possibilities for system scaling and for solving new tasks.

The multifunctional API for SIM-server management is available. It supports two main operating modes – AUTO-commutation mode and MANUAL-commutation mode. In the AUTO mode, the system initiates commutation of free SIM-cards automatically according to parameters set in advance. In the MANUAL mode commutation made only after receiving a certain API-command. The API SIM-server enables user to build high complexity system and create solution for non-standard task.

The gateway connected to the SIM-server keeps its normal features working. It can be interacted by user or by third-party software via the same VoIP and SMS-protocols and the same way as when SIM-cards inserted directly in the device.

Feature of sending, receiving of SMS and DLRs by means of SMPP is present in G8/G20 gateway since very first firmware versions. This way gateway acts as basic SMPP-server. One of the unique SMPP-server features provided by recent firmware updates is multiple account support.

Ability to create several SMPP-accounts in one gateway allow assigning GSM-channels explicitly to user-accounts. This feature enables you to split GSM-channels between remote users, give channels for rent etc.

Each user establishes independent SMPP bind (in transceiver mode) and exchange data with device by it. Each channel of gateway is able to work via SMPP and concurrently perform VoIP-GSM calls, as well as use virtual SIM-cards from SIM-Server solution.

The document includes a step-by-step description to start a minimal set of hardware and software in order to enable the GSM-gateway obtain SIM-cards «virtually» from remote SIM-bank storage.

The Minimal set to create SIM-server complex includes: 1 GSM-gateway, 1 SIM-bank and Linux-server, with «Polygator SIM-server» software installed. The document lists the main steps to perform via SIM-server web-interface. Please note: SIM-server devices address space must provide «visibility» of all devices from SIM-server IP-address.

- via SQLite database located on Asterisk server, it is possible to read incoming SMS and place SMS-records for sending by interacting with appropriate DB tables



HTTP-protocol and other ways (on incoming SMS or on incoming Call, device executes user script (bash, PHP, …) located in Linux file-system of the Gateway device. Receive SMS and Call notifications)
- there is a sample bash-script present for automatic sending incoming SMS to external IP-address (or Host) as a JSON-object by executing Curl command. There is a restriction for SMS body length – 100 symbols.



With third-party software:
- it is possible to interact with GSM-channels of gateway as with local COM-ports
- the device can be connected as one or several GSM-channels to server software
- on-board OS Linux allows to install additional software and extend functionality of the device

Normally you would know an IP-address of the gateway on shipment or from referencing WIKI

However, what if you are getting back to the device sometimes later after certain changes was made?

One of the ways to acquire device setting is browsing system USB-flash on some computer.


How to find IP and other settings of the gateway?


The system USB-flash is formatted as ReiserFS so you can read it anywhere just by installing supporting software. Of course, you should avoid re-formatting USB-flash and performing any disk-checks, as may be advised by some host OSes. You absolutely need to keep it as original. Further, with the help of certain Win/Mac/Linux utilities you can reach any files for reading.

For example, on Windows you can use DiskInternals Freeware Linux Reader or YAReG.

How to find IP and other settings of the gateway?


To find an IP-address of the GSM-gateway you navigate to /etc/rc.d/ and browse the file until you see "echo LAN mode" text. This section lists your current network settings.

The same way you can jump to config-files of native SIP-client (SipUA) as well as to Asterisk main config-files such as extensions.conf and sip.conf.
